First Report :) I love my Nightly Journals

27 Juli-
Today i arrived in the beautiful city of Molfsee. After such a long, exhausting, uncomfortable, trip, i made it to my new home (which looks a little TOO similar to Wisconsin). I was first picked-up by my “host” father, Tibor, and my two host siblings Ari (Arianna) and Corvinn at the Hamburg Airport. where we traveled about an hour ON THE AUTOBAHN ( a little scarry!). When i arrived at my new home i was welcomed by my host parents Peter and Gesa (host parents of which are the best in the entire RYE Program!!). Although i was tired to all heck i forced myself to follow the RYE guidelines and call my parents, fill out my registration, and then accept my family’s offer to go to the Beach.... IN THE EAST SEA!!! there were sooooo many jelly-fish, i got stung a lil :) it was a little difficult to fall asleep tonight... Gute Nacht :)

28 Juli-
Today i awoke at 5 oclock in the morning ( German Time) and found myself incapable of returning back to my blissful slumber, probably due to the time zone change, i thought... and after eating a wonderful Breaktfest with my lovely host family consisting of Wurstbrot (open faced meat, cheese and butter filled sandwich) and Nutella (for those who do not know of Nutella, you are not yet living life to the fullest and must leave now and go buy some at your local store... but for all intensive purposes, it is a chocolate-based substance with hazelnut flavor in it... WOW!!! i love it... anyways, i digress :) …. following that lovely meal i took a rather lengthy nap... 5 HOURS! when i finally awoke we ate... again! :) delicious food i cannot even begin to describe, for i would shame its tastefulness by using inadequate vocabulary... later my host siblings and i ventured off to a Kleine See (a lake) that is not even 100 yards from their house! and swam for well up to an hour, we had the lake to ourselves, it was very peaceful and my host brother, who is just about to turn 14, showed me his skills on a rope swing :) upon our return we enjoyed Eis (ice-cream), and then i was taught a new game... now if it isn’t complicated enough attempting to learn a new strategy game in english... it is 100X more difficult to learn it in German!!! or any foreign language for that matter... however i must note that upon my arrival yesterday i thought i was going to have such a difficult time with the language even with my 7 years of experience... yet, throughout today i found that i am far more capable of success than i thought... OH! and before i forget, my host mom is so very conscious about upsetting me that she tends not to ask me to help around the house.. thus i love her all the more, yet i feel rather guilty.. i find myself asking if i can help out alot more than i would if i were at home in Eagle River :).... Gute Nacht :)

29. Juli-
Today was wonderful considering the fact that it rained almost all day... after eating breakfest/ lunch, a friend of Corvinn’s and a friend of Arianna’s came over. After we hung out a little bit we decided to venture off to the same lake we visited the previous day and meet another friend of Corvinn’s. upon our return Gesa asked me to come along with her so we could pick up a bike (FahrRad) for me to use during my stay here from her brother. once again after returning to our Duplex, Peter, Corvinn, and i all headed into town after a quick dinner for my first German Movie. Not only was the movie (Batman: Dark Night Rises) excellent, but the movie theatre was incredible!!... and CLEAN!!! when returning home we had a quick midnight snack, shared stories, and went off to bed, so here i lay... Gute Nacht :)

30. Juli-
Today was unbelievable... when i say the weather was bipolar... i mean it. Raining on and off the entire day we made our way to Kiel by Bike so i could tackle both my alien residency and my bank account creation. However since we were having a day out on the town, i picked up a rather expensive pair of shoes :o (happy bday to me), razor, and a delicioso meal of Wurstbrot mit Kaese, during the purchasing of said items, i am (not so) pleased to report that my first of financial troubles occured involving an error made at the bank back at home and the transfer of my funds!! :O                     Thus, my more than awesome Host Mother, purchased said items and asked only that i paid her back... when i returned home i considered going for a dip in the lake quick, ahh, but mother-nature being the fickled friend she is, wouldn’t allow it :) and thus it began to rain, and the rain stopped and sun came out just in time for me to eat dinner... thanks for that Mother Nature... for those who do not know, German dinners start at around 7 or 8 o’clock and don’t end until close to 9.30 or 10.... you eat, and eat... and eat... then talk... so i guess my little swimming trip may have to wait until tomorrow... Gute Nacht :)

30. Juli-
Today went by fast... like, WAY too fast... I woke up and skipped breakfest so Peter and I could go have me register for alien residency in the city of Flensburg. After the lengthy and annoying process, I was told i would have my “Deutches Pass” (German Passport, difficult concept to explain.. its more complicated than it sounds), would arrive within about 4-6 weeks!! None-the-less, Peter and I traveled on back to “einen anderen Stadt, in der Naehe von Molfsee” ( another city near Molfsee), to go see Gesa at her Father’s house, meeting this elderly gentleman was seriously one of the coolest things EVER! We talked for a while and he even gave me a little gift :) a little Teller (plate) with a depiction of Kiel in (i’m guessing) the late 1800’s. from there Peter and I said our goodbye’s and ventured off to, “einkaufen gehen” (to go shopping).... with all luck if you read my blog for every monthly report you will have learned German... anyways, we bought groceries, i purchased a very well priced jacket, and then dropped off some recyclables.. upon our return to the house Peter started on Tonight’s Dinner, an amazing pasta dish with a green pasty substance that the Germans call Perto?? which was a garlic, herb deliciousness in your mouth.... WOW... and it is now going on 11 o’clock here and everybody’s wrapping things up... so i shall also :)   ….... I used to wonder how Melissa Velpel (Last years outbound from my school to Thailand) could possibly write so much in each report... i am now all the more wiser... It’s a pleasure to be able to fill in her shoes, figuratively speaking... Gute Nacht :)
